There’s a saying that “All great art comes from suffering.”
I’d like to think it isn’t mandatory for anyone to endure what Kid Dakota’s Darren Jackson did on a fateful bike ride in 2014–several broken bones including his pelvis and months of being bedridden with excruciating pain fueling despair.
The convalescent journey for Jackson resulted in a greater connection to his art, one of healing. Indeed his album Denervation out today on Graveface Records & Curiosities is an honestly cathartic account of how a person can wake up one person and by a cruel twist of fate be forever changed in just seconds.
The songs on the album are complimented by a compelling mix of rock electronica that keeps you on the edge of your seat and Jackson has outdone himself with lyrics that paint a vivid picture of his personal journey beginning with the initial trauma in the first track “The Convalescent” and ending in a much more hope filled place. Thankfully Jackson’s personal story concludes happily, with the hero living to fight another day.
Tomorrow Saturday, February 10th you can cheer Kid Dakota on at their Album Release Show with Alan Sparhawk (Low) at Icehouse.
