By Kaleb Bronson
Thrashing through the unblemished gates, Tree Blood is alive and proof that punk/noise rock is alive and well. This three piece made up of debauchery-soaked men is sure to add the needed hot spice to the Minneapolis music scene with I Am a Disgusting Pig.
Colin Wilkinson, Walker Neudorff and Simon Brooks began the concept for the group about three ago and have since been subduing audiences in basements, record stores and venues with DIY tapes and their newest release I Am a Disgusting Pig. The entire album is dirty yet intricate with Brooks’ vocals hoisting each track beyond fathomable sound barriers. They are rock-n-roll with all of the grime it should have.
Whether drinking in a dingy basement, or taking over The Eagles Club, Tree Blood carries a musical punch wherever they land. Neudorff’s drumming entices the mind and recognizes his well-planned chaos of each beat and Wilkinson’s abrasive guitar cuts through each track on the album like a cast iron blade.
When the 10-song album arrives on “Sol,” track 6, the penetrating sound is turned up and dissolves into the listener. This is where an album warning could come into play; you will dance, shake and quiver to this track. The entire album is consistent and packed with the perfect amount of pandemonium to keep the listener with a level profound perspiring ataxia.
The final track is fierce and leveling, “Obviously” has a lick of grunge intertwined with hygienic noise. It is a perfect closing to this album. Tree Blood’s I Am a Disgusting Pig is pure bedlam filled rock-n-roll and whatever they create next is sure to bring another level of shining turmoil.
