Dan Israel puts it out there, on his new album Dan. It’s his 13th studio album; it would seem most songwriters would run out of ideas and good songs, Israel just gets better. Israel doesn’t stray too far away from a pop sensibility, but not as mainstream pop it’s more Tom Petty, Dylan with more of middle age feel.
I am inclined to like harder edged music, but Israel brings me in with a solid sound, catchy lyrics and an emotional edge. It also sounds extremely local and feels like home.
I think most people in town, know of Dan Israel and at least heard of him. But this time around, and with this album you get a little more of what his life is about and what he has been going through, and what he is feeling. It’s a little sad, but also a life lesson about getting through life’s ups and downs.
The release show for this new album is this Friday at the 331 Club.
