When sending his press release for his new release to riftmagazine.com, Derek Lynch asked: “I hope this is ok.” The reason being is that Lynch has written for Rift, and like some other Rift writers we make music as well.
Lynch’s music reviews for Riftmagazine.com always contained references to music I hadn’t heard of, so I was interested to see what his music would be. This release All Is Not Lost I: Spring is part of a bigger project, a full-length album released in four movements. Three songs, for each season.
Almost entirely recorded in the spare bedroom, in his Minneapolis Apartment, Lynch brings many years of his life together and explores events that have shaped his life.
Since I wanted to explore more media savvy type things with Rift, I decided to do a podcast-style interview with Lynch. The only thing is, he recorded his answers in his spare bedroom, and I recorded my questions in a spare bedroom in my house. Then I put it all together and below is what we got out of it. Lynch sounds much more natural than I do, but it almost seems like we were in the same room. “Almost”
Lynch will talk about his new release and an experience doing some background vocals for Bobby McFerrin. He puts the stories behind the songs and makes it personal. Enjoy!
