For this award-winning duo’s ninth recording, Loretta has gathered together a stellar cast of characters. Supported by an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, Loretta has written 12 songs about real-life ordinary people, who have overcome overwhelming challenges in their lives. There’s a rich tapestry of inspiration and riveting drama offered by the people (mostly Minnesotans) she sought out to interview; a WWII POW who survived the German Death March, a native American who grew up amidst great abuse and discrimination at the State Orphanage in Owatonna, a woman who donated a kidney to a toddler who was a total stranger, one of the Willmar 8 who battled gender discrimination back in the 1970s, a Somalian refugee who grew up in untold hardships and became a nurse at Mayo Clinic, the story of Loretta’s own parents who faced opposition to their marriage, and many more! They’re all crafted with Loretta’s poignant story-telling style, and presented with Curtis & Loretta’s signature tight harmonies and array of stringed instruments.
Joining Curtis & Loretta onstage will be ace bass player Sandy Njoes, plus some of the extraordinary people about whom Loretta wrote the songs!
