News – Rift 26 Hour Songwriting Contest

So we have sent out a prompt to 10 songwriters, to write a song about Money. They will be playing their song, Friday, May 20th at The Warming House in South Minneapolis. You can come and judge, pick your favorite new songs and the winner will get a fancy certificate to frame and put in their awards room.

– If you’d like to participate you can, just not in a live performance capacity. Write your song based on the prompt MONEY and post it on Facebook. Be sure to tag both The Warming House and Riftmagazine.com. Folks from both organizations will review all entries and proclaim an online winner on Saturday, May 21st. If you win you’ll get two free tickets to a show at The Warming House.

– We encourage everyone to come to the show on Friday and make a donation to one or both organizations. You can also donate online. A donation is not required for participation in the online contest.

DEMO Writers Night

If you’re a songwriter who’s just finished a new song, or you’re still struggling to write your first one, make plans to attend DEMO’s Writers Night (January 20th from 7-9pm) where you can share your new creation in a safe space and get constructive feedback from a receptive audience. There is no cost to attend.

Hosted by local singer/songwriter Doug Collins, the (soon-to-be) monthly Writers Night gives songwriters the chance to share and talk about their new songs, surrounded by fellow songwriters. Space is limited so sign up today!

Patrick’s Cabaret music programming has grown considerably over the past five years, specifically the Singer/Songwriter Series and the Eclectic Electric Music Series. Our Singer/Songwriter Series features a solid mix of talented, emerging, and established local musicians. All artists present original works in a storyteller style format. This Singer/Songwriter Series will be guest-curated by Minneapolis music icon, Venus de Mars. Venus has hand-picked (3) songwriters to join her on stage to present an intimate evening of deeply personal work.
