Sometimes we listen to music for deep introspection. At times it’s the witty lyrics that help us to smirk at the world around us. Other days, we’re looking for chords to melt our hearts or riffs to blow our minds. Sometimes all we need is a little fun, a little quirk, and a little rock. For the days when you’re looking for the latter, you’ve got The Person & The People. The band’s second full-length album, What A Drag, is conveniently suited for summertime soundtracks.
Coming across as a well-polished garage band, The Person & The People has put together a catchy, finely-tuned album. The songs flow with a cohesive attitude of dedication to the combination of music, friends, and drinking. While the lyrics are simple and relate able throughout, The Person & The People continues to etch away at the precision of personal distinction and instrumental talent with each release.
Each song moves along like the soundtrack of a summer day, keeping things fresh while melding with the rest. These guys are mellow and fun, and they continue to get better with everything they put out. “What A Drag” might be a sarcastic nod to the fact that, however commonplace it may seem, there’s nothing wrong with holding onto something purely because it makes you smile, it makes you dance, and it’s just plain fun music.
