When it comes to local music you never really know what you’re going to get. Chruth Fabian, Darkwolf and Scarlett are musicians creating music in the middle southern city of Rochester, MN.
When reading the description provided “EP of compositions arranged for loop pedal.” I figured on some noisy, droning and maybe a UN-listenable experimental mess. What I found was something more interesting and more melodic, which was a pleasant surprise.
The recording is a bit Lo-Fi, and sometimes there is too much going on. But it seems like these guys are figuring out, what makes it work. They have some great ideas, sounds and melodies; they’ll just need to put it together into more cohesive sound.
The back beat for these tracks are tapped out on the guitar, and then it’s the keyboard and guitar making it all happen. It’s pretty minimal, but with a little bit of layering from the loop pedal it gives it a fuller sound. Track two throws in a rap part, with a laid back style and amusing lyrics.
The sound is a little bit jazzy, lounge music with a tinge of rock happening. Hard to put into any single genre. I am hoping these guys continue working their craft and push it to the next level. They have something good going on; they just need to find themselves a little more.
