It’s the beginning of a busy May for D.J. Rowsheen. Today she and P.O.S. embark on a two-week tour of Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, and Wisconsin, to be followed later this month by DJ sets at Constantine, “Black Magik Woman,” and Soundset, all while she also completes both a Soundset playlist and her finals! In today’s Back to the City video interview, Rowsheen discusses all of the above, as well as sharing news about her forthcoming residency “Hoops” and some price-less stories about the inspirations and interactions that helped her become the DJ she is today.
Local Music
Listen – United Teachers of Music – Children of the Glow
Metal and Punk, what’s not to love about United Teachers of Music. They put out an album back in November of 2017, called The Dreams of Beasts Must Die. The guitars are ferocious, the bass and drums keep it all together and the vocals channel a mix of Rob Halford and Jello Biafra. Turn this track up when you are listening to it.
Video – Axel Foley – Lovely / Poltergeist (SNOWDAY)
Remember the blizzard a few weeks ago. The aftermath is in this video. Impressively done with an iPhone, and some mad editing skills by Axel Foley. Off the mixtape Maroon Goon, you should check it out. – https://soundcloud.com/axelfoleymn/sets/maroon-goon

Listen – Pilot Jonny – Introduction
Listen To: “Introduction” off of the newly released IM NOT SAD NO MORE
It’s great when people use music to heal themselves, Pilot Jonny’s IM NOT SAD NO MORE is a story about his struggle with depression.
“IM NOT SAD NO MORE is my brief chronological process of how I dealt with my depression. Through self medication and self realization. Every track starts with P because each song represents a problem of mine; A problem being something causing stress, wether positive or negative.” – Pilot Jonny.
Listen – Brianna Kocka – Under The Glass Tide
It’s May 1st and this is the release date of Briann Kocka’s new album Dreamlife. Lines from the press release say it best “Evoking the instrumentation and mournful harmonies of Americana pioneers Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss, as well as the avant-folk sounds of artist Sam Philips…”
If you want to listen to Americana that sounds lush and is emotionally stimulating, give it a listen.
Check out the release show at Icehouse – with the reunion of Zoo Animal (Headlining) and Under Violet opening. Friday, May 4th. – https://www.facebook.com/events/371347009995950/
