JT Bates rang out 2015 by releasing his solo production Open Relationships at his Monday night series JT’s Jazz Implosion at the Icehouse. Bates plays with almost every musician in town from Alpha Consumer to Erik Koskinen to Free Jazz on Mondays. So there was some question, at least at our table, about what to expect, although having Mankwe Ndosi (culture weaver with stately voice) and Davu Seru (noted improvisational drummer) play before was some indication. Back in June I reviewed a short EP from Chruth Fabian, who resides in Rochester, MN. I figured it would be a year or so before I heard from him again and low and behold a new EP has entered my email inbox.
While the music comes across as interesting and unique, I am not sure what an audience would look like for Chruth Fabian. It seems more fitting for a cafe or small jazz club, and might not fit the local rock clubs. [Read more…] about Review – Chruth Fabian – Hungry For Chruth

If you are perusing the metaphorical bandcamp physical record store in the sky, Falcon Arrow’s most recent release provides yet more evidence that the band refuses to be put in a box, or at least that there is not yet a box that exists for them. The typical labels for such music (such as the ones that you will see in the tags at the bottom of this review) fall short of classifying their particular decoupage of sonic textures in a way that is meaningful or even factual.
