Jim Walsh’s Mad Ripple Hootenanny celebrated its 10 year anniversary at The Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis on November 10th, 2016. The host of the Hoot–Jim Walsh, was there to facilitate the post-election feelings and frustrations that the players carried burdensome in their hearts. In fact, many of the people inside of the Cedar had walked along with anti-Trump protestors–Gary Louris of the Jayhawks amongst them–as they journeyed to the show. Continue reading

Gramofone is a new group from Martin Devaney (Crossing Guards, Martin Devaney) that will be debuting with a show at Icehouse in the big time city of Minneapolis on April 4, 2015. The band includes longtime friends Sean McPherson (Heiruspecs), Ryan Paul Plewacki (Sleep Study), as well as newer collaborators Ryan Otte (Crossing Guards) and Adam Lamoureux (Farewell Milwaukee).
The new project falls somewhere in between the Americana songwriter style of Devaney’s solo work and the poppier rock side of things in Crossing Guards. Think Wilco, Grandaddy, (insert your sensitive but rocking indie band of choice here). With Martin as principal songwriter, the band will be more collaborative than his ego ever allowed with past efforts. For the first few appearances, the sets will be made up of new material, filled out with songs from past releases, looking toward having music exclusive to this group.
Rounding out the bill is Crescent Moon Is In Big Trouble. After releasing a powerful six-song EP in 2009, the group has played on and off to captive audiences since. Fronted by Crescent Moon (Kill The Vultures, Mixed Blood Majority) and backed by the musicians from Heiruspecs (minus dVrg, plus Steve McPherson), this will be their first appearance in over two years.
